I'm BACK

So I looked up an olympic weightlifting coach that was recommended to me, and it turns out he trains people at the local high school.  It also happens to be pretty close to where I now live which is nice.

His name is Kevin Doherty, and I trained with him last Sunday.  We worked on cleans from many different positions and jerks.  I also did 5x5 of presses but they were fairly light (50kg).  We finished up with clean deadlifts (90kg).  I actually misheard him when he said to do clean deadlifts, so I actually sloppily cleaned 90kg which is pretty nice since my original PR on the clean was only like 185.  I think his technique coaching definitely helped.  I think I'll keep training with him on saturdays and sundays.

My current plan is to do powerlifting 3 days a week, and oly 2 days a week with some random metcons slipped in.  We'll see how well this works...

I signed up for a membership at the local 24 hour fitness because it's subsidized by the company so it only ends up being ~25 a month.  They have shitty stop sign plates, but oh well.  Did a typical workout there last night.  Wasn't too saddened by the strength decrease because I've seen it happen before...

Squat 3x5 335lbs
Bench 225lbs 5/4/4
Pullups BW 8/6/5

  2. why don't you just do crossfit? i don't know you (besides what I read of your posts) and i'm just trying to be honest. i recall that, in the past, you've said you would start crossfit once you got to a certain level of strength. it seems with your schedule (and i'm not being critical, we all have schedules that we deal with), you make gains and then get side-tracked and eventually lose the strength/gains that you'd been working hard to make. everything in crossfit is scalable, so i'm just trying to understand why you feel like you have to make it to a certain level of strength before you start crossfit. your numbers are good, btw; in some things, better than mine. i'm just wondering what your thought process is, and trying to offer a helpful opinion.

  3. Yeah I definitely understand where you're coming from. The getting back into crossfit used to be a goal of mine, but that's definitely changed.

I know that most people on this thread are pro-crossfit, and while I'm definitely not anti-crossfit, I think that there are better ways to achieve my own goals. I'm really enjoying getting stronger, and while crossfit will definitely improve my conditioning, my strength will definitely not go up nearly as fast.
