China

Is ridiculous. Watch the 77kg replay on NBC's olympic website. Chinese weightlifter Lu Haojie completely f-cked his elbow on his second of three snatch attempts and didn't even attempt a third lift. Regardless he decided to or was forced to by his coaches to attempt one clean and jerk lift, which he nailed. And then won a silver with only two successful lifts and one working elbow.

Lu Xiaojun on the other hand set a new WR in the snatch and the total on the way to taking a huge dump on everyone else and taking gold.

Highlights up in here:

Haojie is 9 years younger than Xiaojun so as long as he's not permanently crippled he'll probably be rolling in gold medals after the next few olympic games. If he's permanently crippled there are probably 15 other guys waiting to take his spot, which is probably why his coaches forced him to attempt the clean and jerk anyways. Go big or go home right?

Got to the gym a few mins early today, did a few heavy cleans, worked up to 213lb in 6 lifts including warmup. None of them felt good.

10 rounds for time:
10 HRPU
10 Push press 95#
10 Front squat 95#
200m run

25:13 - somewhat satisfied with the effort, was really diligent in my pacing, did all the movements unbroken, first 5 rounds transitioned straight from push presses to front squats without dropping the bar. Probably actually paced to slowly since I definitely could have run faster. Also there was a 25 min cap I forgot about until I ran in after my last round and realized no one was working anymore, so though it's kind of an arbitrary cap (more for scheduling purposes) I'm kind of pissed I didn't break 25 cause I technically DNF'd. Oh well, do better next time.

  1. Oh man, dude full on dislocated his elbow! What a badass for a C&J after that. He must have been so juiced up on painkillers or something probably, right? Is that allowed?

Unrelated, but I'm guessing they have weights backstage somewhere for warming up, huh?

  4. I think Lu Haojie just became my new favorite lifter, dethroning Dmitry Klokov (unless Klokov does something REALLY badass in a couple days). Among the grittiest athletes I've ever seen.

  5. Jennifer White is the grittiest athlete I've ever seen, but only because I count pornography as an athletic endeavor. True grit.
